We have had steering clutch discs produced, both friction discs and steel separator plates, for the D65, D85, D155, and D355 steering clutches.

Quantities required are based upon your model, serial number, and  the condition of your clutch.  There were also two sizes of steering clutches in these machines.  The earlier clutches had larger diameter clutches and discs.  (9 1/8″ or 231 mm for the lined disc) (8 5/8″ or 220mm for the steel plate)  The later clutches had the small clutch discs.  (7 15/16″ or 202mm lined friction discs) (7 1/2″ or 190 mm steel separator plate)

Check your clutches closely.  You can often get by with only replacing the friction discs.  Use your best judgment for evaluating your steel plates.  You do not want to install plates that are rough and will accelerate the wear on your new fiber discs.  Clean them with wire brushes, sandblasting, or whatever it takes to get them as smooth as possible and then make your decision.  It is up to you of course, but unless you just like to pull wrenches, these steering clutches are not that much fun to have to remove and reinstall because you tried to save a hundred dollar bill.

A steering system for a bulldozer, comprising a steering direction indicating device for indicating a lateral direction in which a vehicle body is to be steered, a dozing operation detector for judging by detection whether the bulldozer is in dozing operation, a steering controller for controlling the vehicle body to be steered in the lateral direction indicated by the steering direction indicating device when the dozing operation detector judges that the bulldozer is in dozing operation, by tilting a blade in the indicated lateral direction in order to impose offset load on the vehicle body, and by causing a difference between the relative travel speeds of right and left crawler belts attached to the vehicle body at least when light load occurs in the dozing operation.
